What is Accident Cover Plus?
Accident Cover Plus is an accidental death policy with an optional Accidental Injury Benefit.
The policy pays out a lump sum benefit - from $50,000 to $1 million - for death due to an accident (as defined and covered under the policy).
If you chose to include the optional Accidental Injury Benefit, the policy will pay out a lump sum benefit of up to $50,000 for claims on covered accidental injuries. Please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for details.
Why is Accident Cover Plus important?
Accidents can happen at any time. Just think how your family would manage if you were to die or suffer a disability as the result of an accident - who would be there to pay the bills, the mortgage, the school fees and the rest?
Accident Cover Plus can reduce the financial burden caused by accidental injury or death, and prevent one sudden event from causing another long term crisis for you or your family. We can't stop accidents happening, but we can provide you with the cover you and your loved ones need.

Can my partner and I get a joint policy?
Yes, you can. To be joint applicants, you and your partner need to be either a spouse, de facto spouse or person living in a bona fide domestic arrangement where one or each provides the other with financial support, domestic support and personal care. To be eligible for the joint cover discount on your premium, you and your partner must apply together at the same time.

Will I have to answer any medical questions?
No.
Do I need a medical or blood test?
No. When you are completing the online application, you will not need to provide any medical test results.
Who can apply for cover?
If you're a permanent resident of Australia aged between 18 and 74 years you can apply for Accident Cover Plus.
How long does it take to get insured?
You will be covered as soon as you have been accepted and purchased Accident Cover Plus online. Once you have successfully purchased cover, a printable version of your Policy Schedule confirming when your insurance cover started and your level of cover will be instantly available. We will also mail you a copy of your Policy Schedule within five working days.
Can I be turned down for Accident Cover Plus?
No (unless you are not a permanent resident of Australia aged between 18 and 74 years).
What if I change my mind about the cover? Do you offer a money back guarantee?
There is a 21 day cooling-off period included, to allow you to confirm you have the cover you need. If it's not the cover you require, you can cancel your Policy within 21 days of your purchase by writing to the ING Life Limited, GPO Box 4871, Sydney NSW 2001 or phoning us on 1800 242 979. Provided no claim has been made, any premiums paid to us will be promptly refunded - no questions asked.
Can I cancel the policy at any time?
If you cancel your cover within the 21 day cooling-off period, we will return any premiums to you. However, if you cancel your Policy outside of the cooling-off period, you will not receive a refund. How secure is ING's Online Insurance site?
The security and privacy of your information is of the utmost importance to ING. We use the latest technologies to ensure your details are kept confidential and secure, including the 128-bit secured encryption protocol for managing the security of your information while it's transmitted over the internet, and 256-bit encryption for the storage of your confidential information.
When you are in the quote engine, you can tell if the connection between our servers and your computer is 'secure' if your browser displays a small closed lock (
) in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.
Paying your premiums
How can I pay my insurance premium?
You can charge the premium each month to your credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express).
When will premiums be deducted?
Premiums will be deducted monthly. The premium for your first month of cover will be deducted from your nominated account on the date we process your application.
After this first premium deduction, each subsequent premium will be deducted on the 20th day of each month from your nominated credit card. If the 20th day falls on a weekend or public holiday, deductions will be made on the next business day.
How are premiums calculated?
Premiums are calculated on the amount of cover you require. We don't calculate premiums based on age or smoker status - premiums are a flat rate from age 21 to 84.

What if I stop paying my premiums?
If you stop paying your premiums, we will write to you to let you know that your cover has ceased and no benefits will be payable.
Will this impact my tax?
In most cases, any benefits paid to the policy holder or the estate are free of personal income tax.
Can I get a discount if my partner and I get a joint policy?
Yes, you can. When you and your partner take out cover at the same time, you will receive a $2.90 discount on their premium.
What will happen if I can't afford the monthly premiums?
Our insurance cover has been designed to be flexible so you can choose the level of cover to suit your needs and budget. Call the ING Insurance Centre on 1800 500 229 to determine whether you can change your level of cover so that you can continue to be protected.
Making a claim
How to make a claim
We want to make the claims process as easy as possible. A claim can be made by either:
- calling 1800 500 229, weekdays from 9.00am to 6.00pm (Sydney time), or
- writing to ING Life, Risk Claims, GPO Box 4028, Sydney NSW 2001.
We will then send the necessary claim forms that will need to filled in and returned to us. Can I choose who gets the money if I die (from a covered accident)?
The lump sum payment will be paid directly to the policy holder or your estate so you should ensure that your will is up to date. What happens if I die (from a covered accident)?
If you are covered with Accident Cover Plus and you die before the end of your Policy, we will pay your estate a lump sum. The amount of money that is paid will depend on your chosen level of cover. What happens if I sustain an accidental injury?
If you choose to be covered by the optional Accidental Injury Benefit offered by Accident Cover Plus, you will receive a lump sum if you sustain one of the accidental injuries listed in the Product Disclosure Statement. Please note that we require the diagnosis and certification of the injury by a medical practitioner, and the diagnosis of injury must be supported by appropriate medical evidence.
Levels of cover
How much cover can I get?
Accident Cover Plus offers a range of insurance covers to suit your budget and lifestyle.
When you apply, you will be asked to nominate one of the following levels of Accidental Death Benefit cover:
- $50,000
- $100,000
- $250,000
- $500,000
- $750,000
- $1,000,000
You can also opt to take the $50,000 Accidental Injury Benefit for an extra $15 per month
How much cover do I need?
The level of cover you choose will depend on your personal needs. If your salary was no longer being paid you'd need to take into account how much it would cost your family to pay the following expenses:
- mortgage
- outstanding debts
- day-to-day bills, e.g. electricity, food.
Are there any age restrictions?
You can apply for Accident Cover Plus if you are aged between 18 and 74 years of age, and your Policy can be renewed every year until the Policy anniversary date after your 84th birthday.
What does 'guaranteed renewable' mean?
You can renew your Policy each year, without evidence of continuing good health, up until the Policy anniversary date following your 84th birthday.
Do I have to take out cover for a minimum amount of time?
No. You can cancel your Policy at any time. If you cancel within the 21 day cooling-off period, you will receive a full refund. However, if you can cancel after 21 days you will not receive a refund.
Can I get joint cover?
Yes, you can. When you and your partner take out joint cover you will receive a discount on their premium. To be eligible for the joint cover, you and your partner must apply together at the same time. What happens to the policy if one person under the joint policy passes away?
In the event of your death, ownership of the policy will be transferred to your partner and the joint policy discount will be discontinued.
Am I covered if I go overseas?
Yes. You will be covered anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
